UTi answers the call to empower the youth
UTi South Africa (UTi SA) is excited to announce its partnership with Empowervate for the 2014 Youth Citizens Action Programme (YCAP). Powered by Empowervate, The YCAP is a competition-based programme that encourages Grade 10 learners from underperforming high schools to enter projects that they have undertaken to improve an identified problem within their school or community. As a socially responsible corporate citizen, UTi recognizes the challenges South Africa faces and strives to play a role in contributing to social change through education.
‘We are excited to be part of the YCAP as it talks directly to UTi’s belief that education is one of the key drivers and solutions to a better South Africa for all,’ said Andre Wagner, MD of UTi Mounties. UTi South Africa is passionate about community development and engages in social change through projects that aim to deliver better lives to impoverished communities in areas of health and education.
‘As part of our commitment to education and development the company has developed a few other programmes including the UTi Learnership Programme, UTi Graduate Programme and we also have the UTi Empowerment Trust – which offers tertiary education funding to Black South African UTi employees, and to Black South African dependents of an UTi employee, or Black South African nominees of any UTi employee to study at any South African institution of their choice,’ says Wagner.
Our Delivering Better Lives Foundation, also provides us the opportunity to develop educational facilities and provide learning opportunities in as many countries as we can.
‘Education is an enabler, which more than anything else, will allow communities to change themselves. This is an area that UTi Worldwide is very passionate about,’ concluded Wagner.
