When Alumni Discover YCAP is already a Global Best Practice
When your alumna joins a prestigious regional leadership programme… and realises she’s already been trained in Human-Centred Design Thinking.
This week, YCAP alumna Basetsana Sheane shared something powerful with us. During masterclasses on Human-Centred Design Thinking (HCDT) for her Civic Leadership track, she discovered that everything being taught is already embedded in the YCAP Toolkit.
The only difference? The terminology.
What some institutions introduce at postgraduate leadership level, YCAP introduces at primary and high school level:
• Empathy-driven problem identification • Community mapping • Root cause analysis • Iterative solution development • Prototyping and testing • Reflection and impact measurement
This is exactly why we say YCAP is not “just another after-school programme.”
It is structured civic leadership development grounded in globally relevant methodologies.
Basetsana’s message reminds us that early exposure to design thinking and community-led innovation builds long-term confidence and competence.
When youth step into higher education and leadership spaces already fluent in these frameworks, they don’t just participate; they lead. This is what sustainable youth development looks like.
