Mrs South Africa Semi-Finalist Melissa Malander Joins Empowervate’s Colour Run for Youth Empowerment
Johannesburg, South Africa – 31 March 2025
On Saturday, 30 March, Empoweravate Trust celebrated the 16th birthday of its flagship programme, the Youth Citizens Action Programme (YCAP), with a vibrant burst of colour and energy at the Active Citizens’ Colour Run hosted by Empoweravate and Trail Adventures at The Big Red Barn in Olifantsfontein.

Among the excited crowd of over a hundred walkers, runners, dogs, children, and changemakers was Mrs South Africa 2025 semi-finalist Melissa Malander, who brought her trademark enthusiasm and compassion to the event. A passionate advocate for youth empowerment, Melissa attended alongside her husband Lyle, a former non-executive board member of Empoweravate, showing their continued support for the organisation’s mission.

“Being part of this colourful celebration was so special,” Melissa shared. “Empoweravate is doing phenomenal work developing the next generation of active citizens and change agents, and I’m proud to support a cause so close to my heart.”
The event raised funds to support YCAP’s national programme, which impacts over 4,000 children and youth in mainly public schools across South Africa. The programme nurtures leadership, critical thinking, problem-solving, and project-based learning. With every colourful step, participants helped sustain this impactful work.
Empoweravate was a charity partner for Trail Adventures’ event, with 50% of all ticket sales going directly to the organisation. The Colour Run not only boosted fundraising efforts but also encouraged healthy, active lifestyles—earning participants Vitality points in the process.
Melissa’s presence added sparkle and purpose to the day, echoing her commitment to uplift and inspire. As she continues her journey in the Mrs South Africa competition, she remains rooted in the values of community service and nation-building.
