National YCAP workshop announcing provincial finalists – 31 August on MSTEAMS
Tips:
- YCAP is about making a difference in your school and community
- YCAP is also about personal development of teachers and learners through the YCAP toolkit and Teacher’s Guide
- YCAP is about empowerment and motivation
- The competition element is there to showcase the very best efforts and the most impact
- Adjudicators look at portfolios (80%) and oral presentations (20%) to find the impact which includes evidence and sustainability, then how well the steps in the toolkit were followed and then creativity which may be in the portfolio and oral presentation
- Q&A is there to get clarity or to engage the learners in the details of the project, the highlights or challenges and learnings
- Steps that need more attention – step 1, step 3, step 4, step 8, step 10
- Choose a topic that is specific, measurable, achievable and challenging
- The Support Team is there to help, please ask for their assistance. They will check on you too along with your district officials
- Make sure your project is a YCAP project and not another programme that you have simply moulded to fit the YCAP rules – do something new and different as the next phase of an existing project
- No copying of anyone else’s projects or information without referencing the original author, this is plagiarism and you can get expelled from university for doing this.
- Oral Presentation – 10 – 15 mins
1. Name of school, province, team members
2. Topic – why did you choose it? How serious is the problem?
3. What actions did you take to solve or lessen it as part of the project?
4. What impact/changes did you make? Evidence, discuss how the problem was solved or lessened through your actions.
5. What did you learn the most from using the YCAP toolkit to do this project? Discuss the steps that you learned the most from
6. What was the highlight or what challenge did you overcome during your project?
- You are encouraged to now make edits and additions to your portfolios according to the feedback from the adjudicators and the workshop
- The finalists above are in no particular order and there will be new adjudicators at the provincials
- Good luck!
